No trains . . .

Back Blip
Decided to go to Alston to check out the South Tynedale narrow gauge, steam railway.  Unfortunately we chose a Wednesday, and the trains only run on Tuesdays and Thursdays at this time of the year.  Hey ho!

We did love Alston though.  After a coffee and cake at the station cafe we wandered up and down the amazingly steep, cobbled main street and did a bit of shopping.  It's a super place, with lots of interesting independent little shops selling everything from outdoor gear to fresh bread and antiques.

Next stop was Hexham.  It's many years since I was in the abbey, but I remember being very impressed with it and so wanted Mike to see it.  It did not disappoint either of us.  On a chilly, wet day it was also the perfect place to be!  A superb building and a wonderful experience.

Found a quiet spot off the road near Kielder Forest for the night, and we slept like logs!
