River Cray

The River Cray is one of the lesser known rivers of London. It is a tributary of the River Darent which in turn is a tributary of the Thames.  At this point it has been joined by the River Shuttle and is now meandering its way through the parklands of Hall Place, a grade 1 listed country house built in 1537.

While I was growing up the house and gardens were in the hands of the London Borough of Bexley Library Services, and held their archives.  We spent many a happy afternoon in the gardens, fishing for "tiddlers" in the river.

This view is further down river as its leaves the formal gardens. Its good to see children still enjoying the river - and this group of boys later took time out to talk to me and ask questions about my camera.
