Boomtown China

Imitation and Fakery

Want a RLLOS ROCYE or some CARTER jewels?

A whole new upmarket district of endless 30-plus storey tower blocks has been quite literally thrown up in the last thee years in the Nanshan district of Shenzhen.

All of the presently vacant shopfronts are covered up with deliberately misspelt luxury brand names.:
Emporio Armain
Doir
CHANNL
Tiffuay & Co.
MNOT BLNAC
Loius Viutton
BNETLEY
Aston Matinr

Is it a problem?
No. It's free advertising. If it wasn't for the likes of LV being so heavily copied and counterfeited most Chinese would not be aware of many upmarket brands. And guess what? When Chinese consumers have the money they want the genuine article and they are prepared to pay for it!

Of course, only foreigners will notice the misspellings.
