Alexander Palace

I went to my local flower nursery to buy some elephant garlic today, the nursery is situated half way up the hill upon which Alexander Palace (Ali Pali to locals) is built.  This north London landmark looks out over the city and on a clear day one can see across the Thames to South London, not today though, it is quite misty.

Ali Pali was originally built in 1873 but was rebuilt 2 years later after a fire.  It is famous as the place where the BBC transmitted its first public high definition tv service.  Nowadays it has an ice skating rink and is used for public events including exams, M sat a degree exam there some years ago, he said the pigeons flying around were quite off putting.

To the left of the photo is a holly bush, l was astounded that it is covered in red berries already.
