Going up!

Today we spent the day on the island. It rained a little over night, but it wasn't too bad and our little tent kept the rain out okay. We basically cycled all over the place arriving at the northern most tip in time for lunch, which we had on the beach at the foot of Les Phares des Baleines - see extra photo with the beach.

After lunch we went up the larger of the two light houses, and the main blip is the view looking up from the base - cropped to cut out the people going up. From the top you get a pretty good view of the northern end of the island, after about 5 minutes we saw a belt of rain come towards us, so we went down to the room below the viewing platform to let it pass before returning to the top.

The extra photo with the date in it, is the view looking down from the top of the light house all the way to the base. The date being the date of completion of the construction. The final extra picture is an elevation view from the island side.

Once the rain had cleared we had brilliant sunshine and enjoyed more cycling around the island. After reaching another natural end point we had an ice-cream and the finally cycled back to our campsite. The island has lots of cycle lanes, and they are popular, but they are also full of very slow and inexperienced cyclists making it quite a challenge to get about.

After our bike ride we went onto the beach to try a little swim. The waves were too boisterous to make it practical to swim, but we had a good time jumping up into the surf!
