Magical Mystical Sintra

Took the train from the very architecturally beautiful station of Rossio entering through one of two arches. Seems like lots of people are travelling to Sintra, a 40 minute journey from Lisbon. Cheap fare too, only 6 euros return!

Sintra is stunning. We were told by the guys at the Cafe to do the main things in an order of beauty. With Quinta da Regaleira at No 1. It has a mystical castle set in hilly gardens, revealed through a succession of magical and mysterious places. There was waterfalls, grottos, tunnels, underground walkways, fountains, surrounded by trees. I loved it.

We then got the bus to the Herdade, more gardens and palace - an oasis of calm and more beauty. It was such a fantastic trip and so close to the City.

Returned to Lisbon and out for a meal.
