Le pecore

Sardinia is very well known for its cheese made from sheep's milk, pecorino.

Here is a flock of sheep grazing on very sparsely covered land, and accompanied by quite a few white "cattle egrets" (I suspect Bubulcus ibis)

They follow the sheep eating small insects, etc that are disturbed by the sheep, plus they sit in their backs and remove ticks.

You can see one of the birds on a sheep's back in this photograph.

You can see in the left foreground, another small, black bird sitting on another sheep, and a second egret on the ground.

The sheep may well be Sarda sheep, a breed of domestic sheep indigenous to the island.

The cheese is extremely tasty and a few kilos might just find their way into our luggage.
