6th Century Mosaics at Poreč

Today's outing was to the Sunday service at the Euphrasian Basilica in Poreč (pronounced poresh), a UNESCO World heritage Site. The present church dates  from the mid-sixth century, when Euphrasius, then Bishop of Parentium, refurbished an earlier (fourth century) religious complex and installed these magnificent mosaics. They provide a stunning focal point to the church.  The larger complex was closed today, Sunday, but we'll visit it tomorrow--more then.
