Quod oculus meus videt

The local Heron

Location: Isaac Pools, Stafford Rd, Newtown

An early walk hoping for a sunrise.  It didn't materialise.  Instead after I'd noticed this heron a few times recently at the local pool, I'd carried the 300mm lens, just in case.  Pushed the camera/lens combination about as far as I felt possible.  Handheld at 1/60th sec and ISO 1600.  When considering this is a 600mm equivalent lens I was pleased it came out as well as it did.  Give credit to a combination of lens and sensor stabilisation.

One of our younger relatives popped around this evening with his photographs from the Canadian Rockies.  He wanted some help processing some iPhone images before deciding whether to have one blown up for his house.  We had a little play in editing some of them.  Had to smile, I was using content aware fill to sort out some issues and he was blown away.  We get rather complacent sometimes, but he was right, it is pretty amazing what the modern photo editors can do!
