Hepburn's View

Decided to investigate some local history today and ventured to Hailes Castle in East Linton.

Built in the late 1200s, it is thought to contain some of the oldest standing stonework in Scotland. And I didn't even know it existed until today! It changed hands between English and Scottish interests during its time but was with the Hepburn family the longest during the 1300 & 1400s. The last Hepburn to own the castle was some guy called James who, as the story goes, was not only involved in the murder of Mary Queen of Scots 2nd husband but also went on to marry her. So I dare say the walls of this castle saw a few scandals in its time.

History lesson for today over.

Also, new music Monday: Muse
