Life in Newburgh on Ythan

The Mare Tranquillitatis

It is now almost 50 years since Mrs T and I huddled around our flickering B&W television and watched humans setting foot on the Moon! I doubt that we will ever see anything more memorable.
On July 20, 1969, the Apollo 11 crew-members Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed their Apollo Lunar Module Eagle at Tranquility Base (Latin: Statio Tranquillitatis). Six hours later, the two astronauts exited the spacecraft and spent 2 hours 31 minutes on the lunar surface. They lifted off the surface on  the following day.
The  lunar coordinates of the landing site are 00°41′15″N, 23°26′00″E, in the south-western corner of the lunar lava-plain called Mare Tranquillitatis ("Sea of Tranquility").
We count ourselves truly blessed that we live on the edge of our own Mare Tranquillitatis, although it must be said that it is rarely this tranquil!
