Getting Ready

Here in sunny Hampden (!!) they're already getting ready for Halloween and digging out all the ghoulish decorations that'll attract kids to their front doors when they go trick-or-treating. Back in the other Hampden you'd probably get arrested and put on a register for that.

It was a beautiful morning and we went for a wander round the local area with Loy (not short for anything, in case you wondered) giving us the historical and architectural lowdown. This part of Baltimore was an old milling area with 8 mills on the river. Happily some of them are still standing though the mill work has long gone. But there's still a brewery and I tried out some of their stuff over lunch. Not bad!

Visited a couple of exhibitions in the evening at MICA and the Peale Building which is the oldest public museum in the US. Seems Peale was instrumental in installing streetlights in the city and they're about to rerun gas to a lamp that's in the museum grounds as part of the museum renovation. That should be pretty neat.
Then it was off to dinner in a Lebanese place down by the harbour and a chat with a Slovenian guy, Dajan. The topic of football was raised!
