Cape Pillar Track

From Fortescue Bay campground, we headed southwards towards Cape Pillar. This took us along a well used track up and over a few hills, through some marshes and bush. Charlotte became acquainted with her first ever leach, which was an entertaining spectacle. We set up camp at Whugalee Falls, a site infamous for leeches and mosquitoes. We found the leeches alright, but no mozzies! With a much lighter bag, we began the 17km return trip to Cape Pillar. This was all along the impressive new Cape Pillar track, a multi-million dollar project, with fancy accommodation, plentiful rest seat etc. This was nice for us as it made the running easy, but we did feel it removed the wilderness feel from it a bit, as you no longer brushed against vegetation or got any mud on your feet! The track took us all the way to Cape Pillar and up The Blade giving spectacular views of Tasman Island and the enormous sea cliffs (the highest in the whole of Australia!) The return journey back to the campsite took half the time since all the photographs had been taken
