Harvey Nichols Fashion Show

I got a very pleasant surprise this week when Freya offered me a ticket to a fashion show at Harvey Nichols this evening.

The event was held in the basement of the department store- guests were greeted with champagne then escorted 'backstage' and down a flight of stairs into the depths of the store.

The show began to the sound of ticking clocks and the above display, which soon became recognisable as Gwen Stefani's 'What You Waiting For?'. The catwalk was then graced by a flow of futuristic models. Make up was bold and 80's inspired (and was clearly visible thanks to the 'frow' seats we managed to bag). Strong contoured cheekbones with heavy blue/black eyeshadow applied in angular shapes.

The chosen look for hair (created by Cheynes hairdresser) was very sleek and modern. Both Freya and myself were keen to give it a go. Hair was pulled back into a ponytail high on the back of the head and tied with black fabric to create distance between the head and ponytail. The hair was perfectly straight with extensions adding jewel toned colour to the ends. Blues, purples, greens and crimsons bled together in different combinations.

In terms of the actual clothing, I have to say we both preferred the men's looks. With the exception of a few boyband-esque sneaker and suit ensembles, the men's collection was very suave and sophisticated. Sharp suits, classic shoes, blazers, cashmere roll necks, velvet bow ties and even a tasteful murse or two, but all with a modern twist.

Most of the individual Women's wear pieces were stunning. Particularly a signature print Peter Pilotto velvet devore dress, and a Jenny Packman blush pink embellished gown. However a lot of the separates were either quite simple and sedate or paired rather oddly. For example a lovely lemon yellow Stella McCartney lace mini skirt was put with an electric blue cropped wool coat and silver YSL skyscraper heels, which certainly made the most of the models incredible legs, but was not exactly the most demure of ensembles.

I did however swoon over a white cowl neck top teamed with matching trousers and an oversized tangerine coloured coat. Amazing.

We were then invited to look around the store and abuse the 15% discount offered to all ticket holders.

A great night out- well organised, well executed and terribly chic. And all for £15 a ticket.
