rat

someone once told me, if you see rats out feeding in the daytime, theres LOTS more around! We have decking, with lots of rat holes going under, so we know theyre under there...which I dont mind too much ( we're surrounded by countryside and woodland so we're bound to get them!) but they do annoy me when they start eating all the bird food!
My husband puts out a humane trap, but theyre too clever for that....
