This lady is a volunteer at the library of the Gibbs family whose  home was Tynesfield. The books are beautifully bound and well beyond the purse of ordinary folk of the 1800's . We had a brief conversation on the impact of the paperback and she reminded me that many stories were written as serials in journal for example those of Dickens. The paperback format was created by German Publisher Albatross but championed by Penguin in 1935!
