High Winds Predicted

All I can think of to say to that is, it's just not fair...

Our power came back on today and the fires have moved away from us, although 'away' is at best a relative term. Some progress toward containing some of the many many fires has been made, although containment is also a very relative term in these conditions. If the winds come up again, we could be back to square one....

Between the predicted winds and the fact that we would need to boil water until we can have our well tested, we have decided to stay put. Jim has checked on our house and reports that all is the same. Several of the neighbors have gone back, ready to leave again at a moment's notice, but we're too worn out to move again.

Despite the direness of the situation we have many people to thank. The firefighters and all the other first responders who are working beyond exhaustion to fight these awful fires, keep us informed and as safe as possible. No matter what happens we owe them an enormous debt of gratitude, one we can only hope to pass along, since we will never know who most of them are. Some have lost their own homes to the flames, some have come from far away, trading safety and security to join this war, for that is the word the state fire captain used. They are all risking their lives and they are all heroes.

And thank you to all of you who have sent words of encouragement, thoughts and prayers...they are all received with much gratitude
