Mackintosh Staircase

After attending a meeting this afternoon in the Mackintosh Building at the Glasgow School of Art, I took a few shots within the Museum Gallery.

This a view looking down on the central staircase showing the wrought iron motif below the balustrade. as you can see this is a hive of activity with students getting on with their daily business.

Mackintosh makes the staircase feel like a forest in the centre of the building.

"Le Corbusier once confessed that his desire in building was to create poetry. Mackintosh's attitude is very similar. Building in his hands becomes an abstract, both musical and mathematical."
Nikolaus Pevsner in Pioneers of Modern Design
