What’s in a trifle?

A debate ensued this weekend on what constitutes a trifle, in the end my son took over the job and said he would make one that we would like and we weren’t allowed to intervene! So it was a extra surprise that he produced one we all enjoyed and to help me out with my pink blip added a pink colouring to the cream!
