Antique Cars

ok, I admit it: this is a pretty crappy, snap-shotty, pic from the antique car show I went to but the story of the woman is great.

This is Margaret and she stands next to a Dodge Coupe that was purchased by her father for her mom in 1925. In fact, that's the car that took Margaret home from the hospital where she was born in 1936. The picture of the baby on the red poster board is of her :)

The car has been in her family ever since and everyone, including her great grand kids, knows how to drive it. The only accident the car ever had was when she drove it (too fast admittedly) down a steep hill and the gas container caught on fire. "I only had a slightly singed foot," she said. Cool woman :)

The extra has its own story. I'd never seen such a car: it's a 1957 BMW Isetta. According to the owner, the Italians first manufactured that car and it was a total disaster. The French gave it a go and it was even worse. Then BMW, then a struggling car company that was about to fold, took it over and put good old German engineering into it, sold all 150,000 of its first (and last) run, and made enough money to continue in business. So, as the story goes: this ugly little car is what gave us the power player that is BMW today :)
