The Dreaded Ticket Barrier

I spent a most enjoyable day in Manchester where I met up with a very good friend (see extra), did some shopping, had some lunch, and talked until we were almost hoarse.   These are the ticket barriers at Manchester Victoria Station, which I always approach with a great deal of trepidation as they don't always work as they should.   I wasn't disappointed.   On my return journey the barrier refused to accept my ticket but, luckily, there was someone close at hand to help me.
