Lumsdale Valley Waterfall

Took a trip up to Lumsdale Valley near Matlock.  It is a world heritage site with abandoned mills alongside a steep valley.  The mills were powered by water from the local river that cascades down through a steep gorge.  At this time of year the fallen leaves provide a wonderful richness of colour to the area.  I spent about 3 hours in the locality, pottering away, having a perfectly enjoyable time.

Prior to that I'd popped along to the river Dove and to a weir where in previous years their had been sightings of salmon trying to negotiate the barrier.  I got the impression there would be very few successful leaps, the weir is probably 5-6 feet high; lucky they have installed a salmon ladder as well as an Archimedean Screw power generator to the side of the weir.  I gave it 20 minutes but didn't see any salmon, so moved on.
