The thing with being married to a primary school teacher is that you spend a lot of time discussing (and criticising) government educational goals. Like the ridiculousness of teaching reading through phonics instead of getting kids to actually understand the meaning of and, by doing so, to enjoy the words they are looking at.
I reminded myself that I was part of the ridiculous ITA scheme when I was a 5 year old. Even then I thought it was daft.
