Pungs and Kongs

Sixteen WI members came to the "Mah-Jong for improvers" day that I was tutoring at the county office of the WI. I had two helpers. Despite the name of the session, four people who were total beginners turned up to learn this very complicated game! But we put them together on one table and they managed to get a grasp of the game. On the other three tables players found out more about the complicated scoring and more advanced techniques of playing. One table learnt a variation on how to play with three players (see extra). I found it a tiring day, moving from table to table, trying to remember what stage each player was at! At the end they were making plans to play more at home and went home very happy. I came home absolutely shattered!
