Bowood 2017 #3 (Friday 20th October 2017)

I had a visit from the Spotlight Kid today and we had a good lunch at the Rising Sun near Lacock. Afterwards, we walked from Sandy Lane up to Bowood Lake along the public footpath. It was a mild, very pleasant afternoon. We saw buzzards, a red kite, lots of coots and great crested grebe families, canada geese, possibly a female mandarin duck and we heard a water rail.
Of course I wanted to see how this year's swan family was doing, and in fact found the adult pair on land beside the lake with one cygnet, and a further four cygnets a little further along. They are coming along well with well-developing wings. The sandy colouring on this cygnet's head shows it has been dipping its head to the bottom of the lake.
Later on we saw a third adult swan fishing near a pontoon.
