Marriage Lintel

We are heading to Edinburgh ( again ) and decided to make use of our NTS membership ( again) by visiting Falkland Palace.
Falkland Palace was Home to Mary Queen of Scots and assorted Stuart monarchs. It was burnt down in the times of Cromwell but has been partly rebuilt. We enjoyed our visit and the gardens despite a steady drizzle.
We pottered around the village afterwards which has some pretty old houses. A few houses have these marriage lintels over the front door - something I’ve never seen before. They detail the year of the marriage and the initials of the newlyweds.
