Non Stop

Bit non stop today...

I was on the 10:30 train to Edinburgh to attend an event at the Festival of Politics at the Parliament... 13th year of the Festival (run by the Parliament as opposed to the Government or any political party).

The event was about the Scots who fought on the Republican side in the Spanish Civil War, featuring the son of one of them and the author of a book about them. I read the book a few years ago, hence my interest.

Perfect timing, with the events in Spain today.

The audience Q&A was fascinating. We had contributions from Spanish people whose grandparents fought in or lived through the war, and the children of other Scots who fought there.

The other link is that the architect of the Parliament building was Catalan. The building (on the left) is the Blip. It's the rear of it and the windows are where the MSPs have their offices.

I've come to like the building. Its style and modernity is incongruous in such a historic part of the city. However that modernity is the perfect antithesis of the geriatric and medieval parliament in London.

I was out in the evening too - an informal dinner for 6 hosted by the president of the Rotary club.

I'll be yawning tomorrow.
