My Great Success Story

Digital Orchestra

Today has been another fairly full day. A good studio 2 catch up session in the morning with Tim. It was nice to be reaquainted with the SSL desk. It's fairly straight forward but every little helps.

After popping home a few of us came back in to check out the lunchtime concert in studio 1; there was a Canadian man and a flautist. He was conducting a digital orchestra that responded to the movements of his wand meaning he could accompany solo players with an entire (electronic) orchestra. The sound wasn't perfect but good enough to enjoy and it was very interesting. Pictured is the student string quartet that came on briefly to be accompanied.

Immediately after this we joined the queue for studio booking at stores. It was pretty busy and people seemed genuinely nervous whether they would get their sessions. It was fine though and I managed to book my vans for a couple of location recordings, a couple of sessions in studio 1 and 2 as well as some mixing time in studio 3. We have around 50 hours in each studio per semester this year so I plan on making the most of it!

Evening was cider and burger in 'spoons with our laptops, figuring out a topic for ARS (Audio Research Seminar) then back to Aldershot road for some ping pong! Got beaten by the newcomer, Oli (he's fairly practiced though) but successfully defended my spot twice!
