bush treasure...

...and what a find on my walk to the local shopping centre!
 A Quenda skull!

There is a tiny pocket of bush which has, miraculously, been preserved between the school Junior attends and the low, hunched grey building that accommodates a quirky independently owned supermarket, bakery, bottle-o and doctor's surgery.
Veering off from the gravel path into the bush to snap the wild array of wildflowers and there it was!

Quenda (Southern brown bandicoot) were absent from our street and suburb until recently.
Judging by the cone shaped diggings in the garden they are back in force and while neighbour H is lamenting her mined lawn it is a treat to have these dudes around.
While not considered endangered here in WA they are declining to dangerous levels in the eastern states and I  for one am very happy to see the conical holes in the lawn and glimpse a Quenda scuttling around the garden.
