With my surgery date getting closer I had 3 hospital visits last week. A few weeks ago I was invited to take part in a trial to see whether having an infusion of iron prior to surgery lessons the likelihood of needing a blood transfusion. This involved more blood tests, an ECG, which was slightly abnormal, then an infusion of either iron or a placebo. Judging from the horrendous metallic taste I've had for days now I don't think it was the placebo, I haven't felt quite so exhausted today either and I've had a thrilling day sorting out the freezer and cleaning!
