Giving a little back.

Those of us who love the natural world know that our comfortable lives are bought at a heavy cost of damage to the environment and to the essential habitats needed by the plants and creatures which fascinate us.
If present trends continue it seems likely that many of these plants and creatures may become extinct in the next century.
It is comforting that occasionally our activities, as here, give a little something back. This quarry at Warton is no longer worked and has been turned into an excellent nature reserve.
Peregrine Falcons enjoy its crags and I have seen Little Owls here too.
Perhaps, as seems likely on a geological timescale, when our own species becomes extinct, we will have left habitats for others which are less bent on self destruction.
