A summer sky

The colours of autumn - a summer blue sky with a hint of autumn here, not very noticeable as the leaves are almost all gone from these poplar trees. The oak trees have barely begun to change colour yet others, like these poplars, are more advanced along their path to autumn.

Last night the fire alarm started buzzing due to an error - it went on and on and there was nothing we could do to switch it off. Every time we silenced the buzzer it would just start again. The fire alarm panel is in the utility room where Murdoch sleeps so the noise was also driving him crazy. I moved his bed and him to sleep in the study, but he was very unsettled there as he knows his sleeping place is the utility room. We all had a restless night and could not go to sleep, but eventually at about 2 am it stopped buzzing and we could all finally get some sleep - I was on the verge of smashing the panel with a hammer to get it to be silent! Today the alarm engineer came and agreed the board is faulty so that is something else we have to try and get the initial contractor to fix as it is still under warranty, but in my experience that will be months before it is done. We have waited for 2 months for the plumber who originally did the work in the house to come back to fix snagging items and in desperation, we have written him off and now have a quote from another plumber and hopefully he won't take as long to come and do the job. Honestly, the service industry is so inconsistent, its a delight when you meet someone reliable and efficient and they return your calls.

On Monday after his interview Luke took the Heathrow Express to get to the airport and in the rush he forgot his suitbag on the train, which contained his suit and shirt that he had changed out of after the interview. I logged this loss on to the lost property site, never expecting to hear about the suit again, and this morning I got an email saying it was found and we can collect it from Lost Property at  Heathrow. How nice is that, it makes me smile to think that it was found and handed in.

Off to book club tonight - I never managed to read the book as I got stuck into Swing Time by Zadie Smith which I very much enjoyed. However, I will read it as it seems very good.
