Fake Bumblebee

A casual glance at this insect as it went from flower to flower sipping nectar made me think it was a small worker bumblebee, but a closer look confirmed that it was not. Fortunately it settled on a green leaf so that I could see it properly. It is a large narcissus fly, a wrecker of daffodils. Its larvae feast on the bulbs.
