Lunch in the West End

No, not that West End! This one is a village not far from the town of Esher, in Surrey. Or at one time a village - now an expensive dormitory, I suspect.

It has a large green and several ponds, of which this is the largest, and is surrounded by trees. There's a school and a chapel, both now closed. It might seem an ideal place to live, but right on the edge is a large garden centre with the usual restaurant, massive sales area and large pick-your-own farm. It's hard to remember when garden centres simply sold plants! Unfortunately all the visitors to the garden centre, including us today, pass through the congested village causing permanent traffic jams. Not very well planned, I fear.

The garden centre did have a good selection of ferns though!
