Sentinel of the Lake

Sitting preening on the branch with the bronze tinted feathers gleaming in the occasional ray of sunshine which broke through the overhead branches; this cormorant looked very content.

Having called the Birthday celebrations to a close we set off back from Yorkshire but not before walking the dogs round Newmillerdam, so called because of a water-powered grain mill which still stands but is non-operational on the lake side.

The only slight problem was Poppy doing a runner after a squirrel which added time to our walk as we had to chase and find her. I think she was quite relieved on hearing her name but not as relieved as I was on seeing her trotting up the path trying to find us!
