Day 303/17. July 20, 1969.

Over 48 years ago, man first set foot on the moon. Tonight the moon is exceptionally clear, and it has been a while since I did my last partial moon.
Mid left is the crater Copernicus. Bottom centre, the crater Tycho. And the dark circle closer to the centre at the 3 o'clock position is the Sea of Tranquility, where Apollo 11 landed all those years ago.
I can remember the day very clearly, glued to the news reports.
If you have young kids, take them outside and talk them through it. It's the perfect evening out there tonight in the UK and much more interesting than anything on TV. This taken just a few minutes ago.
