Starlings gathering

Had a lovely day out today in Wells with my 'walkers group'.  It was fabulous wandering around the Cathedral and the town before heading off to Ham Wall to see if there would be a gathering of starlings.
Just after 4.00 pm we saw small groups flying in and with very little murmuration, they just settled into the reeds.  The noise was amazing and it as wonderful watching more and more small groups arrive and just settle straight into the beds.  We'd hoped for bigger displays but not today.
The rangers said that there were not many starlings yet, but in a few weeks time up to 20 thousand will be flying around the heath.
A great day out. Again.
