Sunday morning

Still backblipping, bear with me!

Across the river to Triana this morning. The river was busy with paddleboarders having a race, and  the bridge lined with people cheering them on.  The other major activity here was churchgoing. This is part of the overflow congregation; the other half was standing on the opposite side of the road. As mass was going on in the packed church, they were all standing around chatting; we wondered if this still counted as going to church. More street scenes in extras.

Triana is known for its ceramics, so we went to the fairly interesting ceramic museum. Sadly as it was Sunday, the fine covered market wasn't open, other than a few stalls. For lunch we went to another Aldara recommendation, Las Golondrinas; a very typical small bar with traditional tapas where we enjoyed some grilled pork and a roasted pepper salad. We did some more walking afterwards, but we were pretty tired and touristed-out, and we actually ended up going back to the flat and spending a couple of hours sitting on the terrace reading.

In the evening we had another date at the Galeria Anima, handily only a few hundred metres from home. On the way we stopped at our local bar, the Dos de Mayo, for yet more lovely tapas. Especially notable were the thinly sliced grilled artichokes with ham, and a surprising favourite for me, spinach with chickpeas. Much better than it sounds.

At the Anima, the band was a more traditional jazz quartet: saxophone, guitar, drums, bass. The real star here was the bassist; often the rest of the band just stepped back and let him play. He produced sounds I've never heard from a bass guitar before, possibly because it had five strings instead of four. We enjoyed it; home once more just after midnight.
