Six foot two...

...eyes of blue, Big Jim Holton's after you!

Jim Holton died of a heart attack on 5th October 1993 at the ridiculously young age of 42. He played 91 games for the Sky Blues between 1977-81 and also appeared 15 times for Scotland. Jim began his career at West Bromwich Albion and went on to play for a number of other clubs including Shrewsbury Town (and also that lot from Salford). His career was blighted by a succession of injuries and was eventually cut short. Following retirement he became a publican in Coventry and I actually had a few beers served by Jim at his pub, the Rising Sun, in Spon Street.

Jim was neither 6'2" (he was shorter) nor did he have blue eyes. He was, however, a talented, no-nonsense central defender who was very popular at Coventry and the others clubs that he played for. Off the pitch he was a decent down to earth bloke and very well regarded. Some of the egotistical, overpaid 'super stars' of today could have learned a great deal from a guy like Jim.

R.I.P. Big Jim

Friday night is Curry Night!
Hope that you have a great weekend.

In case you're wondering, this shot is of a rather faded t-shirt that I'll be wearing to the match at Coventry tomorrow.
