Flamingo

We left home to travel north to Preston this morning. We were greeted by the inevitable traffic problems on the M6, so it took a little longer than usual.

After lunch I headed off to Martin Mere Wildfowl and Wetland Centre, while my other half went to watch Preston North End. In spite of the wild windy weather I expect I enjoyed myself far more......

I wasn't expecting to see all that much and was surprised to see a kingfisher, woodpecker and a marsh harrier. But the real reason I'd gone was to see the arrival of several thousand pink-footed geese. I wasn't disappointed. At about 5.45pm, those of us left in the hides witnessed this mass roosting for about 30 minutes. Just spectacular!
