Taitu Hotel

We had dinner last night, at the Taitu Hotel. This was Addis Ababa's first hotel, built in 1898 by the Empress Itegue Taitu to house visitors and guests. She was the wife of Emperor Menelik II. It is in one of the oldest areas of the city, called the Piazza. Although it may have faded a bit in the last 100 years, it still drips with charm. Lots of lovely paintings there. Both Anj and Brian bought a very nice one.

The occasion was for the three TAAAC groups to meet, informally. TAAAC stands for Toronto Addis Ababa Academic Collaboration. It is now made up of emergency medicine, psychiatry and family medicine groups. Anj, Brian, I, and now Abbas make up the in-country contingent of the family med group. It was a nice was to learn about others' experiences and share stories.
