NANCY BIRD....

.... into the fight against any bush fires in New South Wales. And this summer after a VERY dry winter looks to be a real issue for bad fires. Let's hope not....

A new addition to the modern way of fighting bush fires. The NSW Rural Fire Service released today this new DC-10 water bomber and named “Nancy Bird”, in honour of renowned Australian aviator Nancy Bird Walton AO OBE.
Nancy Bird Walton was the first woman in Australia to obtain a commercial pilot’s licence and founded an outback air ambulance service.

Just happened to be down by the dam getting a couple of birdie shots here the magpie wondering what the heck I was pointing the camera at, and here this red rumped parrot, seemed totally disgusted I would interrupt its feed.

And then heard "Nancy Bird" roaring into the sky from the Richmond Air base and before I knew it it was straight overhead. You can see the massive "tank" underneath for holding water and retardant.

Have a top weekend all.

Enjoy, and have a look in LARGE
