Illuminating Insights

Went on a pilgrimage to Fátima today, with folk here from Mourão - we went as the moon was setting and returned as it was rising - a long day, and too full of impressions to do justice to at this hour...

The blip is a detail of the newer Church of the Holy Trinity, a huge (seats around 9000) round building (to symbolize the world), where we attended a Eucharist. I loved the shining gold screen all across the front, with touches of warm red; guessing the children on the left are the ones who started the whole thing when they had some visions of Mary in 1917.

Fascinating, so different from either of our upbringings or culture, but such an insight into something very dear to Portuguese hearts.
