Wells Cathedral (Cathedral of Saint Andrew)

Wells Cathedral tonight for Show of Hands (again).

A great performance in a stunning setting. The cathedral is quite a superb space for music and lights up beautifully. The scissor arches shown up to their best effect by the coloured lighting.

Wells Cathedral was originally built in the 13th century. The tower was heightened but following a minor earthquake, the walls started to crack in the 1400s, so they braced it with the elegant 'scissor arches' or 'strainer arches' that have become a characteristic feature of the building.
