Old Kirk

High above the curving river Avon stands the bell tower of the original St Ninian’s Parish Kirk.

Dating back to at least 1560 it is thought earlier church buildings would have stood on this spot

The kirkyard has over 500 graves including a number of Covenantors who died at the Battle of Drumclog in 1679

The church fell into disrepair after the opening of a new church near Stonehouse Cross in 1772
