Decorative handwork

During the major holidays, artisans from different regions of Oaxaca come to the city to sell their wonderful handwork, the styles of which vary greatly from place to place. Textiles from the Istmo (Isthmus) are adorned with large floral patterns in bold colors.
This woman was demonstrating how the work is done. She draws the design on the cloth that is stretched on a frame. Poking a tiny crochet hook through the fabric, pulling up the colored cotton thread and forming a chain stitch, she fills in all the areas. Miles of chain stitch!!!
