Turning her back

Sooner or later, I always said the wrong thing and she would turn her back on me and walk away. And now I had done it again. I watched her face harden and, sure enough, she turned away from me.

But she hadn't walked away. She was giving me a chance to say the RIGHT thing and maybe she would turn back again. I just had to think of the right words...
