Armistice Day: National Memorial Arboretum

I visited the arboretum first thing, not expecting a sunrise of any note, but as there are a couple of public footpaths through the site, I knew I could get a few shots of the memorials before the visitors came in for the memorial service.

I was particularly taken by the 'Shot at Dawn' Memorial, with it's simple structure and wooden posts denoting the victims.

There was a time when there seemed very little effort to commemorate those who fought in the world wars and subsequent conflict.  I'm glad we've seen more effort take place in recent years.  It is a reminder of the horror of warfare and an opportunity to remember those affected.
