That old canard

Today's destination at Roque Gageac turned out to be underwhelming. The Aire that we went to had the "fermé" sign out and the one in the village was incredibly expensive. There was nowhere to exercise Nell or anywhere for us to walk in safety. We tried to get lunch but the only place that was open did not look appealing.

And it was raining.

We drove to the next village on the Dordogne, which turned out to be far more inviting and offered us free parking. Thus you find us in Beynac, where we found a smashing lunch.

We ordered the €19,80 three course menu. I had the soupe de potiron avec crème de lard, followed by confit duck leg, and walnut gateau to round off. The soup turned out to be a visual delight if bright orange pumpkin velouté topped with a whipped cream tasting of smokey bacon. It was sensational. Mr L also had the duck but sandwiched his betwixt a terrine and a Crème Brulée.

No evening meal for us!
