Life through the lens...

Rembrance Sunday

Each year on Remembrance Sunday our walking group start out at Ripley Castle, and walk to St Thomas A' Beckett Church. Hampsthwaite , where a short service is held in front of the Memorial Cross attended by parishioners,  and personnel from the nearby Army Foundation College.
The names inscribed on the memorial are read out, followed by the sounding of " The Last Post"  and then two minutes silence.
Always a moving experience.
We then continue on our walk through the Forest of Knaresbouough, and along the river Nidd.
( Not a lot of the forest left now. Mostly farmland.)
The 7 miles turned out to be 8.5, but it didn't really matter as it was such a glorious day. Golden sunshine, highlighting the Autumn colours.
No hills, just beautiful Yorkshire countryside.
Glad to sit down for a cuppa at the Ripley tea shop though!

The collage shows the beautiful display of poppies in Ripley church.
The young bucks we passed in the deer park.
The Memorial Cross, and trumpeter playing The Last Post, and the glorious sunset on the way home.A lovely end to the day.
